SACRAMENTAL FORMATION FOR ADULTS (OCIA)
The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) is an ongoing formation process for adults who are interested in becoming a Catholic and adult Catholics who would like to receive the sacraments of Baptism or Confirmation and/or First Eucharist.
What is OCIA?
The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) is the process through which adults are introduced to the Catholic faith and become full members of the Catholic Church. This formation process includes several stages marked by study, prayer, and participation in liturgical rites.
The OCIA Process:
1) Inquiry: A period of asking questions and exploring the Catholic faith.
2) Catechumenate: A time of formal instruction, spiritual development, and growing faith.
3) Purification and Enlightenment: During Lent, a period of reflection and preparation for the sacraments.
4) Sacraments of Initiation: Celebrated during the Easter Vigil, candidates receive Baptism (if not already baptized), Confirmation, and Eucharist.
5) Mystagogy: Post-initiation phase to deepen understanding and integration into the parish community.
Why Should I Join?
OCIA is designed for:
•Adults who have never been baptized and wish to become Catholic.
•Adults baptized in another Christian tradition who seek full communion with the Catholic Church.
•Baptized Catholic adults who have not received the sacraments of Confirmation and/or Eucharist.
The OCIA process generally meets weekly in the parish beginning in September and continuing through the celebration of the Sacraments at Easter.
