Altar Service
Altar service is a significant ministry within Our Lady of Mercy Parish, encompassing both the OLM Church and St. Francis Xavier Church. Altar servers play a crucial role in supporting the celebration of the Mass and other liturgical services, enhancing the solemnity and reverence of these sacred rites.
Altar servers assist the clergy during Mass by performing various tasks such as carrying the cross, holding the missal, preparing the altar, and assisting with the presentation of the gifts. This ministry is not only about fulfilling these practical roles but also about fostering a deeper connection to the liturgy and the Eucharist. Serving at the altar is a spiritual journey that nurtures faith and commitment to the church community.
Eligibility: Altar servers are typically children or teenagers who have received their First Holy Communion. Adults who feel called to serve are also welcome.
Training: All prospective servers must undergo a training program to learn the specific duties and responsibilities of altar service.
Commitment: Altar servers are expected to demonstrate dedication by attending scheduled services, participating in ongoing training, and maintaining a spirit of reverence and punctuality.
Attire: Servers are required to wear liturgical vestments provided by the parish, symbolizing their role in the sacred ceremonies.
